Summer is here! After a very cold winter and rainy spring, it is nice to welcome the warmer temperatures, plan summer vacations with family and enjoy all of the fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season. Sure, the weather is warm and down right hot at times but that is no reason to postpone your work out routines. If part of your exercise routine includes walking, do so either early in the morning or at dusk when the weather is coolest. Remember to always stay hydrated by taking water with you when you workout and keep a snack and/or 15gms of a fast acting carbohydrate with you at all times in the event of hypoglycemia. Exercising indoors during extreme heat or inclement weather is a great way to stay on track with your diabetes management plan. Remember, the key is to KEEP MOVING!!
I am pre-diabetic and attended the free Diabetes classes offered at Vernon J. Harris Medical Center. The work of the team (Lawrence Cary, Kimberly Ketter, and Shaun Rivers) is short of miraculous. They have truly made a difference in my life.
