When can I apply and when will coverage start?
You can apply for coverage on the “Virginia Marketplace” that can begin as early as the following month.
Open enrollment will begin November 15th – February 15th every year and you can apply for coverage in the “Virginia Health Insurance Marketplace” that can begin as early as the following month.
But don’t you worry, if you managed to miss the open enrollment period, you may still be eligible to enroll into the health insurance marketplace at any time during the special enrollment period, only if you qualify for a life changing event. Please contact your local Certified Application Counselor to see if you are eligible or how to get exempt from the penalty.
What can I expect?
• Affordable health insurance with quality coverage
• All plans to cover services like doctor’s visits, preventative and wellness care, hospitalization, emergency services, mental health services, pediatric services and prescription drugs
• You can no longer be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions
• You may qualify for financial assistance to make out of pocket costs more affordable through tax breaks or cost-sharing options
